Laura Powers-Swiggett

Description

Caumsett AIR Laura Powers-Swiggett will guide a group of ten on a short walk around the Farm group and through an exercise in seeing like an Artist. Swiggett will share her approach to mark making and the exercises that allow her to capture a sense of a place. Participants will be invited to make their own abstract artwork of a Caumsett landscape.

Caumsett AIR Laura Powers-Swiggett paints serene and vibrant abstract landscapes; sometimes riddled with disruptions and always a leap away from their figurative starting point. Abstraction is a style of painting that may feel intimidating to some and liberating to others. The famous art critic, Clement Greenberg, who championed Modern artists such as Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman and Willem de Kooning, believed that abstract art was art of the purest form, defined by color, line, surface, and the relationship between planes on a flat surface. We hope you will take advantage of this special opportunity to learn how Laura works and how she sees the natural world. This is sure to be a fun and creative exercise in seeing and making.
