Celebrate Atascadero’s Centennial with Symphony of the Vines.  Atascadero native, Darin Alvord, composed “Of Time’s Many Waters” celebrating Atascadero through the decades.  This world premiere performance will be a highlight of the year-long centennial celebrations.  Another significant event of 2013 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner, a German romantic composer of music dramas who had a profound influence on the history of music.  We perform his popular “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” from the epic Ring Cycle.  This concert also falls on “Reformation Sunday,” a celebration of reforms to the Christian church.  Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn composed Symphony #5, “Reformation,” for celebrations commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Reformation.  The work features Martin Luther’s popular hymn tune “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.”
