Description

This Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist (MATS) Training and Certification is funded by the Indiana Department of Family and Social Services through the State Targeted Response Grant: 21st Century Cures. MATS includes a 35 hour distance learning component  and a 2.5 day live training (October 28-30) followed by a written MATS Examination (October 30). ICAADA defines a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist as a practitioner as who has demonstrated their knowledge and skills in the four MATS performance domains identified in the MATS Job Task Analysis (JTA)). In order to become MATS certified, a practitioner must possess a basic familiarity with the entire range of the performance domains of a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist:

1. Pharmacotherapy and Recovery

2. Recovery Supports

3. Education

4. Professional Responsibility

This training series presents an overview of the science of addiction and several emerging trends in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. The concept of medication assisted recovery is discussed identifying several key principles for practitioners to consider when working with people in recovery. The workshops present an overview of the three medications approved for the treatment of opioid dependence: methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone as well as the three medications approved for the treatment of alcohol dependence: naltrexone, disulfiram, and acamprosate. Other topics include tools and resources to support medication assisted recovery; collaborating with MAT Providers, and; ethical issues. This workshop series includes 15 hours of content. Participants that complete the workshop series as well as the Medicated Assisted Recovery Distance Learning Program (35 hours) will fulfill all of the educational and training requirements for the MATS credential.  Payment must be received by ICAADA to access the 35 hour distance learning component.
