Description
Danya Katok brings back her critically acclaimed show CATS!: a cabaret of friendship, love, and humanity, this time at The Duplex! Joined by pianist, Michael Sheetz, Danya weaves the tale of how she met her feline friends, Dusty and Gracie, and the life lessons they taught her along the way. Featuring everything from jazz classics to folk-pop to contemporary musical theater, this show will warm your heart and make you smile (even if you don't like cats as much as Danya!) You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll meow...

Danya Katok, originally from State College, PA, is an exceptionally versatile vocalist whose repertoire ranges from the pure straight tone of plainchant, to the lush soprano of the Romantic era, to the exciting belt of musical theater. She has performed in many of the country's top concert halls, including all three stages at Carnegie Hall, the State Theater and David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Kennedy Center, and Symphony Hall.  She made her New York City Opera debut as Max in Oliver Knussen's Where the Wild Things Are, a role for which she was praised by The New York Times as being “superb."  She has appeared as a soloist with The Boston Pops (“An Evening of Cole Porter," alongside Broadway legend Kelli O'Hara), Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra (Mahler's Symphony No. 4) Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Chamber Choir (Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem), Mark Morris Dance Group (Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts), and New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble (Mahler's Symphony No. 4 and Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music).  Musical theater and jazz credits include Anna (cover) in The King and I with Ash Lawn Opera Festival, jazz soloist with Mark Morris Dance Group at Jacob's Pillow, and Anne/Mae (cover) in O Night Divine at York Theatre Company (Off-Broadway).  She has performed three cabaret shows at Don't Tell Mama and other cabaret venues: her solo shows, CATS!: a cabaret and I Wish It So; and From Charm City to the Big Apple, a duo show with Kat Guthrie.

Music Director, conductor, collaborative pianist, and educator Michael Sheetz is a versatile and rising professional in his field. A believer of the power of music to heal and build bonds of social capital and change, Michael, in the words of conductor Kent Tritle, has “that magic combination of talent, charisma, integrity and a willingness to do the hard work.” Michael is the Director of Choirs at Hunter College of the City University of New York, where he directs the 100+ voiced College Choir and select Chamber Singers Ensemble. As Assistant Music Director of Musica Sacra, New York City’s longest continuously performing professional choral ensemble, Michael conducts, prepares, and accompanies in performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. He is the Music Associate at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, where he performs in and helps to administrate the acclaimed Sacred Music in a Sacred Space concert series. He also music directs and conducts in its liturgical music program with the Wallace Hall Family Mass Choir and Orchestra and the Parish Community Choir.  Here he programs music to cultivate the spiritual life of the community and to feature and nurture the rising young musical talent in the parish.
