Description
The Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra is hosting a master class with virtuoso concert violinist and recording artist Kinga Augustyn. The purpose is to help local students develop their technique and musicality. This page is for observer tickets. All are welcome to observe and support our talented students. We hope this opportunity inspires your own musical journey!
A select group of talented high school violin students will prepare a three-minute selection to perform for Ms. Augustyn, who will work with each student for approx. 12 - 15 minutes. She will focus on bowing technique or other pedagogy as opportunity presents. For additional information about the master class, please contact Amanda, SSO Orchestra Manager, at manager.ssorchestra@gmail.com. Note: The SSO will be presenting Ms. Augustyn in the performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons on Saturday, March 26. For information and tickets to the 4pm concert click here; for information and tickets to the 7:30pm concert click here. COVID-19 policies: Effective 3/13/22, masks optional. The SSO is committed to the safety of its patrons and volunteer musicians and is closely monitoring local and state health department guidelines. As the pandemic continues to evolve daily, an updated policy may be posted prior to the concert. Kinga Augustyn is an award-winning New York City-based virtuoso concert violinist. Augustyn’s expanding discography includes the Paganini Caprices, which music critics consider as convincing as Perlman’s or Midori’s, and an “an enduring benchmark” (Classical Net). “Stylish and vibrant” (The Strad Magazine), and “beyond amazing, one hell of a violinist!” (The Fanfare Magazine), Augustyn is often praised for her musical interpretations. Gramophone calls her “Turning in Time” album of 20th and 21st Century works “remarkable”. Augustyn has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Europe and Asia, including the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Riverside Symphonia. She has toured China and performed at China’s Beijing Poly Theater and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Other venues she has recently appeared at include the Stern Auditorium and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Aspen Music Festival, the Chicago Cultural Center and Teatro Ristori in Italy. In 2021 Augustyn released two highly acclaimed solo violin albums: Turning in Time with music of the late 20th/21st Century, and La Pasión with music by Astor Piazzolla. In 2018, with the Torun Symphony Orchestra and Mariusz Smolij, she released on Naxos an album of world premieres by the Polish composer Romuald Twardowski (b. 1930). Augustyn had previously made a significant contribution to Polish music by recording the Polish Violin Music, a highly praised, “fascinating” (The Strad) album of lesser-known Polish composers. Her other discography includes Glen Roven’s Runaway Bunny Concerto with Catherine Zeta-Jones as a narrator, and Mendelssohn/Bruch Violin Concertos with Janacek Philharmonic and Jakub Klecker. Kinga studied at The Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay, Cho-Liang Lin, and Naoko Tanaka, and at the Stony Brook University with Phil Setzer and Pamela Frankm and plays on a violin made by Joseph Gagliano in 1774, generously on loan from a private collector.
