Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present “In The Works.” This exciting new series was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment. It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers. In The Works is be presented monthly and feature three composers or composer teams, each presenting about 20 minutes of new material. This month features the works of composers: James Ballard & Seth Christenfeld, Cassandra Kubinski, and Brandon Michael Lowden. Hosted by: Thomas Honeck. JAMES BALLARD (Music) is a composer, lyricist, and writer who was written works for choir, concert band, orchestra, pop/rock/jazz ensembles, and musical theatre. As composer, shows include the full-length musical The Oxford Epidemic, the one-act musical The Jerk Next Door, and the 10-minute operetta A Door, all co-written with lyricist/librettist Seth Christenfeld. As composer/lyricist, shows include the heavy metal oratorio The Darkest Day and the upcoming theatrical song cycle Worlds To Explore. His work has been performed at venues across the country including the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles, and numerous clubs and cabarets in New York City. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Curtain Up songwriting workshop at the University of Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Virginia. James holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU and a BM in Music Composition from James Madison University. SETH CHRISTENFELD (Words) is a lyricist, librettist, and dramaturg. In addition to the stuff with James, he has cowritten the musicals Wait Forever (music by Sean Havrilla) and The Bad Ideas of Jack Andrews (music by Joseph Trefler; 2014 Davenport Ten-Minute Play Festival finalist; NAAP Discover series) and the short operas An Unbroken Line (music by Spencer Robelen) and Women’s Work (music by Benji Goldsmith; Salzman Award finalist). He holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU and a BA in Drama Studies from SUNY Purchase. He is a member of ASCAP, the Dramatists Guild, and the They Might Be Giants fan club. Raised in the lawless wilds of Westchester County, Seth now lives in Manhattan, where he spends his days as the Literary Manager at the York Theatre Company. www.sethdoesthings.com CASSANDRA KUBINSKI has the unique distinction of having written with Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Famer Billy Joel, and recorded and released songs with the Goo Goo Dolls’ John Rzeznik, Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Chris Botti, and 10,000 Maniacs’ pop singer/multi-instrumentalist Mary Ramsey. She’s garnered prime media accolades in the Tri-State area, including reviews, features, and TV interviews. Cassandra has performed and toured coffeehouses, colleges, clubs, theatres, and living rooms, from NYC to LA to Jamaica to Germany. Her previous release, the holiday EP, Holiday Magic, debuted at #46 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and received national airplay on over 25 radio stations. Cassandra has also built a robust profile in Hollywood as a songwriter, and an actress. Lifetime’s wildly successful show Dance Moms has featured 13 of her tunes, including the fan favorite “Swim,” whose lyric video has accrued over a million views on YouTube to date. Select other plum licensing placements include having songs featured on ESPN’s First Take, NBC, E! News Daily and more. In addition, Cassandra has appeared as an actress in shows such as Spin City with Michael J. Fox, and the box office smash Finding Forrester, alongside Sean Connery and Anna Pacquin. As pop artist with a purpose, she’s been an outspoken ally, contributor, and supporter of such organizations as Music for Autism, Susan Komen’s Race for the Cure, and Swish: The Gay/Straight Alliance. Cassandra has also uplifted the spirits by performing music in hospitals with LifeBEAT. Currently, she serves as Global Co-Chair of Membership for the prestigious, non-profit organization Women In Music. BRANDON MICHAEL LOWDEN is a bookwriter, composer, and lyricist whose work deals with contemporary themes like self-loathing and love gone bad as well as more traditional musical theater subjects like women’s sports and artificial intelligence. You can assume he is developing at least three new musicals at any given time. His work has been presented at Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, Musical Theatre Factory, Barrington Stage Co., National Asian Artists Project, Prospect Theater Co., New York Theatre Barn, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, the Duplex, the Contemporary Theater Company of Rhode Island, and others. A member of the Dramatists Guild, Brandon holds an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he was a recipient of the Mel Silverman Scholarship. Prior to that, while earning a BS in Electrical Engineering at Princeton University, he was an award-winning writer for both the Daily Princetonian and the Triangle Club (who still perform his songs annually). A native of Pittsburgh, Brandon now resides in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan and works an office gig to support his real job (writing). He also writes freelance for the workplace comedy troupe The Water Coolers and occasionally blogs at The Bee’s Reads.
