Description

Anywhere from 20 to 25 percent of Americans live with some form of mental illness. Loving someone with a mental illness and living with a mental illness provides unique challenges to all relationships. Learning the special considerations for a partner with mental illness, how to communicate about an illness, and how to deal with the various challenges takes time and learning.

This class discusses the added challenge of power exchange when one or both partners are living with a mental illness. It covers the "secretary fantasy" of Domming your partner out of a mental illness. It also discusses coping tools, ways to communicate, and sources to learn and gain support.

This class spends special time on the more common illnesses such as major depression, manic-depression, anxiety, OCD, social anxiety disorder, and ADD/ADHD.

About the presenter:

Rebecca Blanton (aka Auntie Vice) has been a submissive in the kink community for 30 years. She is a freelance writer and performer based in California. Her written works include Love Letters to a Unicorn: A book about kink, BDSM, and non-monogamy, 26 ghost written romances, 20 academic publications, a blog and two forth-coming books in 2017. Her book Love Letters to a Unicorn was a finalist for the 2016 Golden Flogger Award and the I-NLA's best nonfiction book of the year.

Prior to becoming a full-time kinkster, Blanton served at the head of the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and taught Political Science at John Jay and Baruch Colleges in New York. She holds a Ph.D. (ABD) in Political Psychology.
