ONE NIGHT ONLY! - New Year’s Eve In the two decades since its arrival on the Broadway stage, the musical has profoundly affected humans from all walks of life, in nearly every country. Bayou City Theatrics’ production explores Jonathan Larson’s heart-wrenching score in a fresh, new way, further developing its ideals of acceptance and compassion. In this production, the audience views the story through the thick-rimmed glasses of our narrator, Mark, as he cuts together fragmented images of his of friends. As if we were viewing an 8 millimeter documentary on the AIDS epidemic and the bohemian lifestyle in early 90's New York, the show will be infused with cutting edge projection and lighting design. The staging cinematically takes a "close-up" look into each character. Using the driving rock score as a "soundtrack" to Mark's film, the live band is featured onstage, reminding us of Mark's days following his roommate’s band in their heyday. Though knowledge and treatment of HIV and AIDS has progressed immensely since RENT's conception, awareness of the disease, remembrance of those who lost their lives and compassion for those still suffering remain at the forefront of its heart.
