WCR Forum: Kevin Hallock, President of University Description
Hallock, an economist, will discuss a set of factors including wage inequality, increases in regulation and compliance costs, increases in student support, including for mental health, and the competition for amenities. He will also use examples comparing his own college experience in the early 1990s with that of his son, who graduated from the same university recently, and that of his father who studied at the same university in the 1960s. He will also discuss finances at the University of Richmond today, and challenges of higher education in the future. An award-winning teacher, Hallock is a labor market economist and author or editor of 11 books and over 100 publications. He has taught courses in many areas, including labor economics, microeconomics, applied econometrics, and finance. He teaches a course to first-year Richmond students on why people earn what they earn. Hallock’s research has included areas such as the gender pay gap, executive compensation, quantile regression, and job loss. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Prior to coming to Richmond, Hallock spent a total of 26 years on the faculties of the University of Illinois and Cornell University. Hallock graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1991 and earned a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University in 1995. He and his wife, Tina, grew up together in a small town in Massachusetts, have been married for 31 years, and have two grown children, Emily and Tyler. Kevin and Tina live in Richmond with their rescue dogs Mabel and Matilda. |
