Description
Chabot College Theater Arts Department proudly presents our Fall production of Tartuffe, directed by Linda Amayo-Hassan and produced by Dee Dee Stephens. Tartuffe, first performed in 1664, is a theatrical comedy by the French playwright, Molière. The characters of Tartuffe, Elmire, and Orgon are considered among the greatest classical roles in theatre. Orgon, blinded by his admiration for the insincere Tartuffe, brings him into his home and arranges for his daughter, Mariane, to marry him. Various members of the household attempt to intervene and have Tartuffe thrown out, leading to some classic comedic staging moments. Orgon is duped by Tartuffe's false piety, and this play deals with religious hypocrisy, which was hugely controversial during its early performances, making this one of the most famous plays in theatre history. |
