Join us for a lively show as we return from our long hiatus of live performances! Strike Up the Band for a New Day will be a reflection of the music we all grew up playing and love as well as focusing on new diverse composers to reflect a broader vision of art and music. Together, we will kick off an exciting new year of performance and a new chapter for Rainbow City Concert Band! Our Concert title: Strike Up the Band for a New Day was chosen because after two long years, Rainbow City Concert Band is ready to make a come back. As George Gerswhin says, “Let the drums roll out, let the trumpet call, while the people shout, strike up the band!” Rainbow City Concert Band's Interim Director, Jennifer Lang-Powers, is ready to step on the podium and lead us through a magical evening of live performance, engaging and fun music. We have three guest conductors joining us for this performance, Kevin Nguyen, Wes Walton, and Erin Keaton-Howard. Musical pieces include: Strike up The Band by George & Ira Gershwin, arranged by Warren Barker; Shenandoah by Frank Ticheli; First Suite in E Flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst; National Emblem March by E. E. Bagley and edited by Federick Fennell; March to the Finish by Ethan Prado; Louisiana Parish Sketches by Julie Giroux; Ye Banks and Braes by Shawn E. Okpebholo; Let It Shine Like A Star by Naoya Wada. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, April 2nd at 7pm at University Congregational United Church of Christ located in University District.
