Description
Join us as we look broadly but specifically at “transitions,” from high school to higher education, to
success in higher education and beyond, and at what needs to happen at crucial points of transition
to increase the chances for success. Per our tested conference model (24 since CHERE began in 2012), we will hear from veteran
campus staff, students (a CHERE specialty), high school staff, community-based leaders, and
government officials – with much time for questions and discussion with our audience.
Three expert panels, including students, will look at:
Getting Ready and Getting In: from high school prep, to avoiding summer melt, applying to
the “right” school,” securing financial aid, and that all important first day, week, month and
semester once enrolled. Bridge programs of various types can make a huge difference.
Keys to Student Engagement and Early and Sustained Success: the idea is the same – connection –
but the context might differ at community colleges, 4-year schools, and technical schools.
Going Somewhere: Next Steps at all Levels, On-Campus and Beyond – Building One’s Personal
Portfolio (and Resume). A key concept weaving through these transitions will be the importance of “inter-sector
collaboration,” wherein no one sector controls the entire continuum from high school to post-college employment, or even graduate school; but where inter-sector understanding and
collaboration are essential to create a “success continuum” at all levels. |
