David Coleman is a singer, songwriter and advocate for social justice. The show employs the healing power of music to raise awareness to our Criminal Justice System.
David first found himself “writing” lyrics at age six—singing off-colour words to pop songs to ward off monsters hiding in the cemetery on the way back to his childhood home. It worked like a charm. Recognised in elementary school for his lovely voice, David’s formal musical training began in a juvenile detention center after he was arrested for truancy. He honed his storytelling skills as a Dungeon Master, teaching fellow ruffians that sometimes it’s easier to disarm monsters with a butterfly than a mace.
Early influences include Jim Croce, Bob Seeger, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Eric Clapton. Guitar wizard Roy Clark taught David never to judge a book by its cover.
David holds a Master’s from New York Theological Seminary and is a licensed journeyman in horticulture and nursery management. He believes music is a way to be heard when no one will listen...
“People cannot be defined by the worst thing they’ve every done. People can and do change. And, you may start in a bad place, but you don’t have to stay there.” - David Coleman
