Description

Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present “In The Works.”  This exciting new series was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.  It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.

In The Works will be presented monthly and feature three composers or composer teams, each presenting about 20 minutes of new material.  This month features the works of composers: Selda Sahin & Derek Gregor, Theresa Sareo & Michael Holland, and Mark Sonnenblick.  Hosted by: Thomas Honeck.

SELDA SAHIN & DEREK GREGOR are the songwriters of the short musical film Grind starring Anthony Rapp (Dazed and Confused, Rent) and Claire Coffee (NBC's Grimm). Grind screened at 29 festivals around the world (best film at NYC Downtown Short Film Festival, SENE Music and Film Festival, Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, FilmOut San Diego and others) . Album available on iTunes and Amazon. Selda and Derek co-wrote Eric Michael Krop's (Broadway: Godspell) debut pop album "Greater Things" (also available on iTunes) and are currently co-writing Lilli Cooper’s (Broadway: Spring Awakening, Wicked) debut EP. They've been recognized as "Ones to Watch" by the Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI) and their song "The Storm" was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest. Derek is a recipient of a Richard Rogers Award, a MAC award and a John Wallowitch award. Selda was selected for the ASCAP Songwriters Collective and the ASCAP Country Music Workshop in Nashville, and was a member of the Advanced Class at the BMI Workshop. She received an Emmy for her work on Passion at Lincoln Center. Her musical All Fall Down was directed by Emmy Award winning and Tony nominated director, Lonny Price. THERESA SAREO is a singer/songwriter/trauma survivor, has a powerful story to tell; one that affirms the saving power of following your dreams. After surviving a horrible accident on a Manhattan street corner that claimed the loss of her entire right leg, Theresa's courageous dedication to her recovery has inspired the amazing journey of her life and career.  She has since become an in-demand motivational performer for audiences throughout the educational, medical, corporate, entertainment, political and military communities.  Her music is often deeply personal and emotionally reflective.

Theresa was awarded the Friends of the United Nations' “2012 Human Rights Award for Courage and Leadership for Empowering and Enabling the Disabled” in New York. She's spoken and performed around the world for audiences including University students, medical communities and wounded military service members.  She proudly made history in becoming the first civilian performer to sing the National Anthem at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D.C., and also the first to perform at the U.S. Army's Warrior Transition Units European Command, through their Department of Ministries.

MICHAEL HOLLAND is a composer/lyricist/orchestrator/music director/guitarist/ keyboardist/singer - basically, when the phone rings, he says yes. As composer/lyricist, shows include Horizon Line (NEXT Festival 2014; in development with Theatre Latté Da, Minneapolis), You’re Gonna Hate This (54 Below, 2017, Joe’s Pub 2013; in development), Hurricane (New York Musical Theatre Festival 2009), and a few he doesn’t want to talk about yet. He was the orchestrator/vocal arranger for the 2011 Broadway revival of Godspell, as well as one of the producers of the cast recording. Recent orchestration credits include Emma! A Pop musical for Stageworks (2015), Disco Party and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever for Playscripts (both 2016). He has composed incidental music for The Alley Theatre, Bay Street Theater, Bucks County Playhouse, The Old Globe, Playwrights Horizons, Dallas Theatre Center, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Juilliard, and NYU Tisch. From 2001-2013, he was a performer/musical director/arranger of the multi-award winning NYC favorite Gashole! - an irreverent, pop music mashup cabaret. Recordings include four solo CDs of original music, as well as the world premiere of “Another Day in the Modern World” on The Maury Yeston Songbook (ps classics). Upcoming: Clue On Stage (original score, Cape Playhouse, August 2018; U.S. Tour, 2019); The Great Gatsby (incidental music, Bay Street Theater); You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (music direction/new orchestrations, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, spring 2019). MARK SONNENBLICK is a composer, lyricist, and scriptwriter, although not always at the same time. Collaborations include Midnight at The Never Get (York Theatre Company October 2018, Bistro Award winner, MAC Award nominee "Show of the Year"), Independents ("Best Production" FringeNYC, "Critics' Pick" New York Times), Dragons Love Tacos (TheatreworksUSA), Twenty Minutes Or Less (Washington National Opera), Ship Show (Yale Institute for Music Theatre), Stompcat in Lawndale (Ars Nova Ant Fest), and Bunkerville (Yale DRAMAT, BSU Discovery Festival winner). He has won a Jonathan Larson Grant and developed work at residencies and theaters across the country.
