Description

The Diamond Valley Arts Council presents its newest exhibit, “Evanescence” under Curator Kari Robledo Howell. This Art exhibit features works from Kjersten Jeppesen, a Los Angles based artist who has devoted her life to the arts and education. The exhibit is open to the public and may be viewed at the Diamond Valley Arts Center (123 N. Harvard St., Hemet), Wednesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm, now through August 25th 2018. A reception will be held Saturday, July 14th from 3pm – 5pm (please RSVP).

Kjersten Jeppesen was born in 1918. She received her Bachelors in Art in 1940 from the University of Idaho and went on to receive her Masters in Art in 1943 from the University of Oregon. She then later achieved simultaneous teaching credentials in Art and Special Education from California State University, Northridge.

Jeppesen’s works reflect the best qualities of the modern artistic approach, while also demonstrating a steadfast movement toward continuous growth. This is seen in her experimentations of both subject and media.

By incorporating a vast amount of knowledge of what had been done throughout the history of art with visions of what could, should, and most of all needed to be done in art “today,” Jeppesen forged a culmination of what could be considered contemporary impressionism.

Her use of color, light, granulation, gradation, compliments, and composition reinforce the qualities of grace and fluidity. She captures a perfect balance between boldness and reticence, the genuine and the imagined, while giving the viewer a personal perspective into the introspection and contemplation of the subject. Jeppesen’s work exudes a soft and subtle strength in every gestural brushstroke. Her works divulge the evidence of the colors, light, and shadow that exist in reality, but which are often overlooked.
