Montford Park Players

After a three-year hiatus, Montford Park Players, an Asheville theatrical tradition, is proud to bring back the return of one of its most-loved shows, The Complete Works of Wm. Shakespeare (abridged), by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield.

This riotous send-up of ALL of the works of the Bard has been performed by Montford Park Players on six different occasions in the past, but has not been seen gracing the Amphitheatre stage since 2014. This time it returns with a new director, Sarah Felmet, a new cast, Jason Phillips, Jason Williams, and David Broshar, and a script newly revised by the original authors.

Felmet says of the play, “I have loved this show ever since I saw the script back in the 90s. I have seen it done many places but my favorite has always been Montford. It’s a mix of script and creativity and I look forward to seeing how we make it great.”

Producing almost exclusively from Shakespeare’s canon each year, Montford Park Players relishes the opportunity to parody the plays it works so hard to take seriously the rest of their season. “I hope our regular patrons come for a good night of fun and laughs,” says Felmet. “This show really pulls the audience in and makes them a character in the show.

Additionally, the cast, new to this production, appear regularly on Montford’s stage. The chance to play some of the same characters, this time a lot sillier, endears them to their roles. “It’s great to sink your teeth into meaty characters like Hamlet or Macbeth,” says Broshar. “But it might be even better to tear them down and just do something ridiculous. I haven’t decided which. Ask me when I’m not waist deep in a creek.”

Montford Park Players, has been presenting Shakespeare and other classical works to the Asheville community since 1973, and has since grown to be one of Western North Carolina’s most beloved and well-known cultural attractions.

Bring a picnic and your favorite beverage or enjoy local beers and wine from Shakespeare's Tavern.
