Description
Words To Live By – An Evening With Dorothy Parker - a one-woman show, based on the works and life of Dorothy Parker is created and performed by theatre artist Mary Bennett.   The show weaves a collage of dramatic devices and literary slights of hand to lure the audience into a world imagined by Dorothy Parker, THE 1920's writer, wit and critic.  The show won "Best of" at The San Francisco Fringe Festival and enjoyed a successful extended run at the Exit Theatre, Bruka Theatre and others through out the west coast.

Opening for “Words To Live By” - The Ballad Of Frankee & Matilde created and featuring Carrie Lynn & Lyndsey Langsdale.  Inspired by music from the 1966 French film “A Man and a Woman,” The Ballad of Frankee and Matilde may appear at first glance to be a simple love story, two lost and awkward souls finding each other and being carried away by new and sudden infatuation. But at it’s core, the tale of these two lovers is about the battle between novelty and nuance and the invisible mechanism that both pushes us away from and pulls us nearer to those we love the most in this world.

Mary Bennett is a West Coast Theatre Artist who has created a significant amount of theatre projects as a solo artist, founder of Renaissance Projects and currently Producing Artistic Director at Brüka Theatre.  Voted "Best Actor" in Reno by News and Review eight times, her training experiences have included:  American Conservatory Theatre – San Francisco, Bay Area Theatre Sports, Dell Arte’ International Theatre Company (Northern California & Bali, Indonesia), New York Stage & Film at Vassar College, The B Street Theatre and The Kennedy Center as a teaching artist.  Mary is currently the Producing Director of Brüka Theatre in Reno and divides her time between Producing/Acting/Directing and working as a theatre Artist in Residence throughout the West Coast teaching improvisation, movement, theatre and mask.  Mary has created her own solo shows including Dorothy Parker … Shivering and Sighing incorporating the life, short stories and poetry of Dorothy Parker which won “Best of” The San Francisco Fringe Festival. Mary has played Shirley Valentine for Brüka Theatre.  Mary has received numerous grants, 2 Artist Grants for her theatre work from The Sierra Arts Foundation and was twice runner up in the Nevada Arts Council Fellowship.
