Description
Written to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the end of the Civil War, the Baldwin Players are performing a powerful new play by a young playwright. The Whipping Man provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of three Jews — one, a badly wounded Confederate soldier, and the other two previously his slaves. Set in April 1865 they negotiate shifting interpersonal roles, rotting faiths, and basic survival just after General Lee surrendered at Appomattox. It is a story of bindings – chains, love, and faith – and secrets.
