MCC Jazz Ensemble Concert with special guest Andrew Gross

Featuring Young Sounds of Arizona

Started in the late-1960s by legendary educator, Grant Wolf, the Mesa Community College Jazz Band has left a long wake of continued success and has set the standard for jazz ensembles in Arizona. The band has performed all over the country at various festivals and concerts. It’s alum range from studio musicians, composers, film-scores, jazz stars, and music educators who are currently active all over the country. The band showed continued success throughout the late-90s and 2000s under the direction of Fred Forney and Barb Catlin. Now under the direction of MCC alum, Paul Brewer, the MCC Jazz Band has a new home in its new Performing Arts Center and continues to promote jazz at a high level throughout the Valley.
About Young Sounds of Arizona
Founded in 1971, the Young Sounds of Arizona remains the first and oldest program of its kind in the country.  Young Sounds is comprised of forty (40) students who range in ages between thirteen to eighteen.  They come from schools in the greater Phoenix area.  All members are accepted by audition and are considered to be the best young talent that the Valley has to offer.  Young Sounds now features two big bands and a jazz combo. 

Performing Arts Child Lap Policy 

While most performances are suitable for the entire family, some programs may contain adult themes/language. Please use discretion and consider the other audience members when deciding whether to bring infants and small children to a performance. If you have question, please contact the Box Office.

Small infants and children 2 and under that are seating on a lap and not occupying a seat are free.  Any child more than 2 years of age requires a ticket when attending the MCC Performing Arts Center.
