Eating disorders affect people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and socio-economic statuses. Additionally, eating disorders often carry the HIGHEST risk of death of any mental illness.
*****Session 1: Dawn Dillon - MS in counselor education; LPC-S (TX), LPCC (CA), NCC, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-Supervisor (CEDS-S) - Dawn has 20+ years of treating eating disorders in an outpatient private practice setting. She has provided professional consult and counseling services for eating disorder clients in both private and public university counseling centers. She is a supervisor of licensed professionals seeking a specialty certification in eating disorders and has also created and provided weekend training retreats for providers working in the field of eating disorders "Fundmentals of Outpatient Treatment of Eating Disorders" Content descriptions: This presentation, Fundamentals of Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment, is 90 minutes which includes 75 minutes of an educational and instructional presentation followed by 15 minutes of case examples and Q&A. The 75 minute presentation covers the basics of outpatient eating disorder treatment including: eating disorder diagnoses and the bio-psycho-social model of how eating disorders develop; education on the team approach to treatment and description of the members of a full treatment team; barriers to accessing evidence-based care and/or a full treatment team; how to recognize when someone needs a referral to a specialist or a higher level of care; and tips for treating/supporting someone with an eating disorder. The final 15 minutes will encourage interaction with the attendees through example cases and an open invitation for questions. A didactic presentation covering the following topics: (1.5 CEs) *****Session 2: Becky Mehr - M.S. Clinical Nutrition; RDN, CEDS-S, LDN Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in state of TN, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Approved; Becky has 20+ years as a Registered Dietitian with 15 years specializing in the field of eating disorders. She is also a Supervisor/Consultant. "De-bunking Diet Myths & Nutritional Complications from Disordered Eating/ED" Content description: This session will provide education on nutrition myths and diet culture. In this session, presenter will discuss and review common myths associated with diets in our society. And will provide education around nutrition complications of those with eating disorders. Learning objectives: 1. The audience will be able to discuss at least one nutrition myth and the impact it has on society. 2. The audience will be able to identify at least three signs of medical complications of an eating disorder. 3. The audience will be able to discuss at least two diet myths and how that impacts eating disorder treatment. (1.5 CEs) *****Session 3: Laurie Cooper - PsyD Clinical Psychology; LPC-S (TX), LPCC (CA), NCC, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-Supervisor (CEDS-S) - Dr. Cooper has 25+ years as a licensed psychologist, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. She is a licensed psychologist in TN, Illinois and Interjurisdictional Practice of Psychlogy (PsyPact). She is also a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist - Approved Supervisor. "Treatment And Advocacy For Those Impacted By Eating Disorders" Content description: This session will build upon previously described methods of diagnosing, assessment and treatment implications for those impacted by eating disorders. In this session, the presenter will discuss important considerations for seeking treatment, understanding the treatment process, including Christian based treatment of eating disorders and advocacy for change to promote a wellness culture. Learning objectives: 1. The audience will be able to identify three important considerations for seeking treatment for an eating disorder. 2. The audience will be able to discuss at least one component of a Christian based approach to the treatment of eating disorders. 3.
