​Youth United Battle of the Bands is a family friendly event featuring some of the best on-the-rise youth bands from the Triangle.  Bands will battle for the top two awards onstage at Motorco Music Hall.  A panel of music professionals and the crowd will determine the winners.  In addition to awesome live music,  food will also be available at the event.  Durham based Merge Records is a cosponsor of the event!

Habitat for Humanity of Durham is a nonprofit organization that helps low-income families build, purchase, and repair their own homes.  In Durham, Habitat builds new homes, repairs existing homes, and rehabilitates abandoned homes.  Habitat works in partnership with the homeowner, volunteer laborers, and the community to build affordable homes that are sold to qualified families at zero-percent interest.  In lieu of a down payment, Habitat families must work at least 250 on their own new home or other Habitat homes thereby contributing "sweat equity" for their home.  Homeowners invest at an affordable level in their home or repair project, and their mortgage payments are added to a revolving fund that is used to build more Habitat homes.

Youth United is a Habitat for Humanity initiative that mobilizes young people, ages 5 to 25, to fund and build a house with Habitat.  Durham's Youth United group has built 6 houses in Durham since the group first came together in 2006.  House number seven is currently being built  with the help of this year's cosponsors.  Proceeds from the Battle of the Bands will help fund Youth United house builds.
