Description
My Mom is a Sex Therapist is a one-woman musical based on Lola Maltz’s real-life journey of growing up as the daughter of a sex therapist and how it shaped her into the daring woman that she is today. Lola plays multiple characters, including her Mom, a sexually voracious alter ego, and the full cast of a lesbian safe sex PSA -- all accompanied by a live band. Full score is by Joshua H. Cohen, book is by Lola Maltz, musical direction is by Garrit Guadan, and direction and choreography is by Michael Raine.

Lola Maltz (Performer and Writer) is thrilled to be back at the Duplex performing this new rendition of My Mom is a Sex Therapist with her amazing team and a band for the first time! She has been performing this show since 2010 when she first premiered it at the Duplex. Lola is currently studying acting with Matthew Corozine of MCS where she recently got to play her dream role of Rose in Gypsy. She loves acting, singing, dancing, and writing, and is so grateful that she gets to be an artist and to give a voice to shame and what it means to be human. Lola hopes you’ll take at least one thing away from this show, and that is...to love yourself!

Joshua H. Cohen (music & lyrics) is pleased to return to The Duplex, where his cabarets Speaking for Myself and True Story played, and where his MAC-nominated song “The Sacrifice of Love” (a.k.a. the waxing song) premiered. His musicals Tamar of the River (Prospect) and Flight School (Vital; nat’l and int’l tour) are both available wherever you buy cast albums. Jonathan Larson Grant recipient, and more. JoshuaHCohen.com

Garrit Guadan (Music Director) is thrilled to be working on MMIAST again! He has worked as a music director, pianist, and actor off-Broadway, regionally, and in many of NYC’s hottest cabaret venues. You can even catch him from time to time in the Duplex’s own piano bar! Find more about Garrit at www.garritguadan.com

Michael Raine is a New York based director and choreographer. His work has been seen at the Flea theater, Joe's Pub and Lincoln Center Jazz, as well as many regional and NYC theaters. He has taught and choreographed for Juilliard Drama, University of Miami and NYU, where he has been a member of the faculty at their graduate acting program since 2008. Michael is thrilled to be directing MMIAST here at the Duplex.
