:::

Hailing from the brutal streets of Detroit's Eastside, producer, lyricist, and storyteller Esham rose to legendary status at age 15 with his debut release "Boomin Words from Hell." The now infamous and highly coveted "red tape" details the perils of growing up young and black in a city being ravaged by the American crack epidemic of the 1980s. The album was released by Reel Life Productions, a label founded by Esham and older brother James, and the two brothers made history by selling 100K copies solely by word-of-mouth.

Esham is known for dropping original, groundbreaking projects at a frantic pace with each album offering a dramatic difference in creative vision from the last. The rhymes drip with scathing religious and political commentary while often diving deep into the description of the dangerous Detroit underworld. Esham consistently pushes the envelope with new lyrical inventions and distorted musical concoctions designed to leave his fans with an auditory high.
