Description

“Looking Beyond the Surface: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” – the Theme of the December 13 annual conference of The Connecticut Association of Educational Opportunity Programs.  CAEOP is a statewide volunteer organization committed to supporting professionals that promote post-secondary educational access and retention for populations traditionally underrepresented in higher education. As professionals, we assist middle school, high school, and college students, as well as adults returning to school.

This year’s conference theme – BIG WORDS – can mean everything or nothing; but on Dec. 13, at Central Connecticut State University, a diverse group of higher education leaders will bring clarity and specificity to these important topics by providing opportunities to learn about and discuss some best and promising practices, hear an inspiring keynote address by a host school VP for Diversity, Inclusion & Equity, honor a CAEOP Achiever, hear a COE update, and to reconnect with and meet new friends and colleagues – a day not to be missed.

Members of CAEOP include educational opportunity professionals, teachers, counselors, and administrators working at all levels of education, as well as other professionals who are committed to the principle and promotion of equal educational opportunity throughout Connecticut. We form coalitions with organizations and individuals who have an interest in advancing educational opportunity programs.

In addition to our direct assistance to students through academic support, advising, mentoring, and financial aid and career counseling, CAEOP members provide information and resources to individuals and organizations interested in promoting equal educational opportunity among leaders in education, practitioners, public officials, the media and others.

This conference – 9 AM to 3 PM -- is a collaboration between CAEOP and CHERE (Center for Higher Education Retention Excellence) in light of the interests and work shared by these two organizations in Connecticut, broader New England and New York State.
