Description
THE MATTSON 2
The Identical twin’s deep telepathic kinship navigates colorful forms of beautiful weirdness and exotic landscapes of layered improvisation, transcending the concept of modern musical performance. The duo shimmers and shakes with the soaring modern wizardry of Jared Mattson’s untamed, layered guitars and Jonathan’s tribal jazz hard-bop drumming – a marvel of jazz-rock orchestration and arrangement. In April 2017, Chaz Bundick Meets Mattson 2 album “Star Stuff” found itself at #1 on contemporary jazz Billboard Charts. The brothers Mattson paid tribute to Japanese legends like Shintaro & Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Haruomi Hosono on their Spring 2018 release “Vaults of Eternity” (via Carpark).“Mattson 2 Plays A Love Supreme,” (Spiritual Pajamas, 2018) is a future jazz mini symphony that shines a light into a hallway of mirrors to cast eternal reflections directly back onto the ideas and purpose of Coltrane himself, whilst challenging the very boundaries of jazz and modern pop.

Kainalu is a psychedelic funk recording project by multi-instrumentalist, Trent Prall. Drawing influence from modern psych-rock and classic Motown artists he grew up listening to, his unique sound is quickly gaining attention in the music community. Kainalu’s core is rooted in Trent’s Japanese Hawaiian heritage; the word roughly translating to ocean waves, but more personally the concept of the ocean raising and breaking down the islands through time. Kainalu explores this meaning through both its sound and visuals. Joined by Joe Waldbillig (guitar/synth), Evan Nelson (bass), Matthew Allen (drumset), and Aaron Gochberg (conga/percussion), the live band creates a more jam-oriented interpretation of Prall’s recorded music.

Kainalu’s single, “Finding Peace Of Mind” has been featured on various premiere music blogs including Indie Shuffle, Joy of Violent Music, and BlahBlahBlahScience. The track hit #1 on Hype Machine charts, followed by his track, “Folds Like Origami,” which also hit #1 consecutively. “Folds like Origami” landed on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist and has gotten press coverage from Earmilk and tastemakers like David Dean Burkhart. Kainalu's music has proven international appeal, charting on iTunes in Mexico, Portugal and Brazil in addition to radio plays in Australia, Mexico City and Paris. Kainalu’s live performance was named one of the “40 Can’t-Miss Shows of the 2018 Underground Music Showcase,” by 303 Magazine. Kainalu continues to perform live around the Midwest, and is hoping to tour after their sophomore album release early 2019.
