BILLY RECCE

PATRICK THOMPSON

CAL SILBERSTEIN

LAURA WESTMAN

Description
Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present “In The Works.”  This exciting new series was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.  It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.

In The Works will be presented monthly and feature three composers or composer teams, each presenting about 20 minutes of new material.  This month features the works of composers: Billy Recce, Patrick Thompson & Cal Silberstein, and Laura Westman.  Hosted by: Thomas Honeck

BILLY RECCE is an award-winning composer/lyricist, playwright and performer based in Manhattan. His musicals include the award winning and international-headline making Balloon Boy: The Musical (NYMF’s youngest ever writer at 17), A Musical About Star Wars (currently running at Theatre Row), The Charlatans, Wally Weasel’s G.O.P Jamboree and Dimes (all of which received developmental workshop productions at Fordham University). As a singer-songwriter, his "Snowflake" songbook concert series has been presented in sold out runs at 54 Below, The York Theatre Company, The Green Room 42, The Duplex and The Metropolitan Room, featuring guest performers including Natalie Weiss, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Nikka Graff Lanzarone, and Sam Underwood. He has contributed musical material to NEWSical and The Birds and the BS with Jordan Roth (co-writing songs for Laura Benanti, Titus Burgess and Mandy Patinkin), and was the head-writer/composer for Broadwayworld’s Rachel Unraveled. His songs have also been performed at Irish Rep, The Motor Company, Tune in Time, Don’t Tell Mama’s, and across the country. He is the recipient of a NEO Award, a MAC Award, the VSA Playwriting award and a Thespian Musicalworks Award. His debut album, “The Perks of Being A Snowflake”, is available on all digital music platforms. PATRICK THOMPSON & CAL SILBERSTEIN are a writing team based in NYC. They met at the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program where they wrote their first musical, A POSTCARD FROM CONEY ISLAND. Thompson is originally from Milwaukee, WI where he worked as a music director and resident artist for the KidsWrites program with Skylight Music Theatre. His musical, PASSING BY, premiered in the 2015 Chicago and New York Musical Theatre Festivals and his most recent show NOBODY KNOWS premiered at First Stage Children’s Theatre this past summer. Silberstein hails from Perth, Australia where he is a founding partner of the independent theatre company, Ludicrous Displays. His other musicals, VIVA LA RESTORATION, HOW WE RUINED MACARTHUR’S MARKERS, FAIRYBREAD and STRAWMAN have had productions across Australia. His short opera, PRESIDENT JOAN (OR THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF SANDWICHES) recently premiered as part of “The Dinner Party Operas” at the Brooklyn Museum. They are continuing to workshop A POSTCARD FROM CONEY ISLAND and are writing a series of stand-alone cabaret songs.

LAURA WESTMAN is psyched to be performing original material at In The Works.  She is a New York based singer and songwriter, originally from Durham, NC. Brought up on piano lessons, musical theater soundtracks, endless choirs, and a chronic addiction to arranging music for a cappella, Laura holds music as the highest and most pure form of self expression. Last summer she graced the Duplex Cabaret stage with the rest of the Von Westman Family Singers (...her family) to celebrate her 30th birthday.

Laura's music is intimate, whimsical, and a love letter to the drama specific to musical theater composition. Her style has also been influenced by folk, jazz, and the never-ending creative improvisation of fake book keyboarding. EP coming out this year. Instagram @westygrammed, SoundCloud.com/LWesty
