Description

Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present “In The Works.”  This exciting new series was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.  It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.

In The Works will be presented monthly and feature three composers or composer teams, each presenting about 20 minutes of new material.  This month features the works of composers: Sarah Ziegler Blair, Bryan Blaskie & Laurie Hochman and Joel B. New.  Hosted by: Thomas Honeck.

With Performances by: Jordan Bell, Gillian Berkowitz, Jonathan Christopher, Liz Damuth, Kyle Decker, Gabriella Marie Garcia, Luke Holloway,  Lily Lester, and Ali Reed.

SARAH ZIEGLER BLAIR (lyricist and librettist) is an advanced member of the BMI Workshop. Sarah is currently working with composer David Christensen and co-lyricist/librettist Kellen Blair on an audience-interactive “choose-your-own-adventure-style” dating musical called Just Between the All of Us. In the summer of 2017, Theater in Asylum and Piper Theatre in Brooklyn presented a workshop production of Sarah’s other new musical, The Brontës, written with composer Lucas Tahiruzzaman Syed and co-book writer Katie Palmer. Sarah's songs have been performed at cabaret spaces across the city including 54 Below (Lady Parts, Broadway Babylon, and MuseMatch), The Duplex (In the Works) and the New York Theatre Barn (Sarah vs. Sarah). In the October of 2015, Sarah and composer Nicky Phillips had a short musical in Stage Fright, Prospect Theater Company's Fall Musical Theater Lab, and in the spring of 2016, Sarah and composer Kristin Bair were commissioned to write a short musical in UC Irvine's 4@15 production. Other projects that are just beginning and "in the works" are: a song cycle of not-boring-or-too-serious solo songs for women with composer David Christensen, a holiday musical with David Christensen and Luke Holloway, and a musical adaptation of an indie film with composer Nicky Phillips. Sarah has a Masters in Musical Theater from The Boston Conservatory and also enjoys occasionally taking the stage as a performer herself.

BRYAN BLASKIE is a composer and music director from Columbus, Ohio. With Laurie Hochman, Bryan was a semi-finalist for the O’Neill’s National Musical Theatre Conference with their show Nothing to See Here, and their music was recently featured at the Stepping Stones Museum in West Hyler’s Pure Chaos. His opera Outside, with libretto by Seth Christenfeld, was presented last month by American Opera Projects at the Stonewall Inn. His musical Assistants, co-written with Apex Legends and Titanfall 2’s Manny Hagopian, opens Off Broadway in June 2019 at the Players Theatre. Bryan is a graduate of NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

LAURIE HOCHMAN is a published member of BMI since 2001, Laurie Hochman’s music and lyrics have been heard on Nickelodeon’s The Wonder Pets, on Essential Voices USA’s Celebrating the American Spirit, in The Pushcart Players’ Happily Ever After: A Cinderella Tale, and in other plays. Laurie earned a BA in Writing for Film & TV and an Evvy nomination for a personal essay from Emerson College. In both 2014 and 2015, she was a finalist for the Warner Bros. Writers' Workshop Program. Laurie also wrote book, additional lyrics, and story for, Perfect Life, which premiered at the Austin Theatre Project in 2017. Laurie met Bryan Blaskie at NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, and their thesis musical Nothing to See Here was a 2019 semi-finalist for developmental consideration at the O’Neill Center’s National Musical Theatre Conference.
