Description

The Early Adult Financial Capabilities Track is designed to provide participants with an overview of your rights as a consumer as well as basic knowledge of how to prioritize different types of debt.  The course consists of four sessions: (1) Where’s the Money? Part I (2) Where’s the Money? Part II (3) Six Secrets to a Better Credit Score and (4) Surviving Debt in Today’s Financial Market. Age 16+. Minors permitted with parent or guardian. Both minor and adult must purchase tickets for and attend workshop. 

This course will provide the knowledge and skills to achieve greater financial stability.

Session I:

 “Where’s the Money? 

Competency: To gain knowledge of basic money management tools

Learning Objective(s), by the end of the session participants will:

   Participants will know the purpose and benefits of a spending plan.

   Be aware of resources (i.e., individual development account) available to assist with saving.

   Have identified practical approaches to assist in managing money.

 

Session II:

 “Six Secrets to a Better Credit Score”

Competency: To understand basics of credit Fico Scores

Learning Objective(s), by the end of the session participants will:

    Know the purpose of credit and the importance of their credit history.

     Know how to read and analyze a credit report.

     Know how lenders determine credit score rating.

     Know what constitutes a high or low credit score and the implications of both.

     Have knowledge of the basic factors that influence credit scores.

Session III:

 “Surviving Debt in Today’s Financial Market!”

Competency:  gain knowledge of a number of consumer protections 

                Learning Objective(s), by the end of the session participants will:

    Have knowledge of different types of consumer protections (i.e., the Fair Credit Reporting Act)

    Learn What Debt Collectors Can and Cannot Do to You

    Learn Different Ways to Stop Debt Harassment, Including: Negotiating with Creditors and Collection Agencies

     Understand the role of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
