BROWN BOY WITH STORY TO TELL SEEKS FRIENDLY SET OF EARS. Serious replies only! The revolution will not have a Gospel Riff Challenge and neither will this show. What is the perception you leave behind? Friend or foe? Bitch? Shade comes from the tallest tree, but the blues will last forever. Know your history and come listen to the soundtrack of a potential midlife crisis brought on by tight jeans, a failing country, and one man’s search for art in the darkest of all places.
James Jackson, Jr. artistically grew up in Boston, but musically was reared by lesbians in the Berkshires of New England. The shoes; Birkenstocks and one great pair of fierce leather boots. The music; Indigo, Simone, Franklin, and Difranco. The relationships; many, lost, and strong.
After being deposited in New York City back when Jesus was a boy, the real work began. Dance belts, regional stage yelts, and working for a team of rather demanding Brits all lead him to discover his artistic truth on stages like New York’s Radio City Music Hall as well as Carnegie Hall. After a rather unfortunate stop in Branson, Missouri, James honed his talent, his razor-sharp wit, and on & off stage persona, which helped make him an artistic force to be reckoned with as well as a voice that people want to hear. A sucker for song-interpretation and story telling, James’ unique sense of humor and unending search for diversity in an art scene that typically doesn’t look like him is always aimed at changing the face of the concert and cabaret stage.
Crimes he’s committed: Allegedly dressed in a 40-pound poinsettia tree costume (Re: Branson). Pissing off a team of Brits (Whistle Down The Wind). Potential womanizing while award-winning (Dreamgirls DASH Supporting Actor Actor Award). A regional premier/orgy (The Wild Party). Drag Queen ...but you should see those legs (Henri Gabler). Fraternizing with Rockettes (I wouldn’t dance for 45 either). Partook in Black Boy Joy (A Strange Loop Michael R. Jackson aka: Genius).
