There is a minimum donation of $30 per ticket, additional donations are welcome. "Light of Hope" - the name was inspired by "The Little Match Girl" by Hans C. Andersen. On a cold New Year's Eve, a little girl tried to light the matches she is selling to keep warm. In the glow she sees lovely vision, including a Christmas Tree, a holiday feast, and her grandmother. She keeps lighting the matches to keep her grandmother to stay with her.... ChildCare Vietnam hopes to bring warm winter, light up the future for the orphans in Vietnam. Trumpet - Alex Nguyen Since arriving in New York, trumpeter Alex Nguyen has been establishing himself for his distinctive lyrical and melodic style. The Savannah, Georgia native has garnered praise for his independent projects, including the nine-piece Jazz Conceptions Orchestra, for which he arranges much of the material. While his work as a soloist, bandleader, and arranger has caught the attention of critics, Alex has also been noticed by fellow musicians, appearing with such groups as the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, the Curtis Fuller Quintet, and the Celebration of Lionel Hampton; and one of his compositions “The First Year” was featured on NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron’s album The Traveler. Alex was the winner of the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition and received the Jamey Aebersold Award for Artistry at the National Trumpet Competition. He also was awarded residencies at Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, in Washington, D.C., and the Steans Institute for Young Artists at the Ravinia Festival, in Chicago. A graduate of the University of North Florida’s Jazz Studies program where he worked with legendary alto saxophonist Bunky Green, Alex also holds a Masters in Jazz Studies from SUNY Purchase, where he worked closely with seminal trumpeters Jon Faddis and Jim Rotondi. 2. Piano - Miki Yamanaka Miki Yamanaka is a New York based pianist and composer. Originally from Japan, she started playing the piano at the age of 5, and became interested in jazz when she began playing in the junior high school big band. She moved to NY in 2012 to study English and music. She has studied piano and music theory with Jason Lindner, Jeb Patton, and David Berkman. In March 2015, she was chosen as one of three pianists to participate in “Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead”, an intensive composition and performance residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She graduated from Queens College in December 2015, receiving her Master’s Degree in Music Performance. She has shared the stage with many notable musicians, including Jerry Dodgion, Steve Nelson, Rich Perry, Philip Harper, Winard Harper, Antonio Hart, Frank Lacy, David Wong, Gerald Cannon, Joel Frahm, Michael Rodriguez and many more. She performs at some of New York City’s finest jazz venues such as Smalls, Mezzrow, Fat Cat, Showman’s, and Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola. She is the current pianist in the Philip Harper Quintet. 3. Bass - Clovis Nicolas Clovis Nicolas is a jazz bass player and composer currently living in New York City, who graduated from the Juilliard School. His warm, precise and tasteful bass playing gained him a solid reputation on the international scene, which led to performances with artists such as Peter Bernstein, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Washington, Brad Mehldau, Harry Allen, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Curtis Fuller.
