Beethoven Sonata in F major for Horn and Piano, op. 17 Rossini Duetto in D major for Cello and Bass Britten Two Insect Pieces for Oboe and Piano Duruflé Prelude, Recitative and Variations, for Flute, Viola and Piano, op. 3 Hummel Septet in D minor for Flute, Oboe, Horn, Viola, Cello, Bass, and Piano, op. 74 It can’t have been easy for a composer to be a contemporary of Beethoven’s, yet Hummel composed works that stood out even up against his famous colleague. The unusual instrumentation of his Septet was the inspiration for this concert, which uses the Septet’s instruments in uncommon groupings by composers as diverse as Britten, Rossini, Duruflé, and Beethoven. An international group of stellar performers straight from the stage of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center come together to present a program that will delight and surprise you. |
